Check Valves
Check valves shall permit free flow of sewage forward and provide a
positive check against backflow. Check valves shall withstand a minimum
working pressure of 1.03 MPa 150 psi or as indicated. The body shall be
iron. Directly cast on the body shall be the manufacturer's name,
initials, or trademark and also the size of the valve, working pressure,
and direction of flow. Flanges shall be the 56 kg 125 pound type complying
with ASME B16.1.

Ball check valves shall have flanged or threaded ends and shall be
the non-slam type. Ball shall be stainless steel unless otherwise
specified.

Swing check valves shall comply with AWWA C508, shall be bronze
mounted, and shall have flanged ends. Check valves shall be
equipped with [outside lever and spring] [_____].
2.1.5
Joint Compound
Joint compound for threaded joints shall be a stiff mixture of graphite and
oil, inert filler and oil, or a graphite compound.
2.1.6
Joint Tape
Joint tape for threaded joints shall comply with ASTM D 3308.
2.2
MANUFACTURED UNITS - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
2.2.1
Standard Products
Material and equipment shall be the standard products of a manufacturer
regularly engaged in the manufacture of the products and shall essentially
duplicate items that have been in satisfactory use in similar facilities
for at least 2 years prior to bid opening. All aeration/mixing equipment,
associated accessories, and appurtenances shall be supplied by the same
manufacturer. Equipment shall be supported by a service organization that
is, in the opinion of the Contracting Officer, reasonably convenient to the
site.
2.2.2
Nameplates
Pumps, blowers and motors shall have the manufacturer's name, address, type
or style, model or serial number, and catalog number on a stainless steel
plate permanently secured to the item of equipment.
2.2.3
Protection of Moving Parts
Belts, chains, couplings, and other moving parts shall be completely
enclosed by guards to prevent accidental personal injury. Guards shall be
removable or so arranged as to allow access to the equipment for
maintenance. If equipment is housed in a lockable housing, this shall be
sufficient protection and no additional guards are necessary.
