MODIFIED BITUMINOUS MEMBRANE ROOFING

NOTE: This guide specification covers the
requirements for modified bitumen sheet roofing.
Hot mopped asphalt, torch applied, and cold-applied
adhesive applications are included. Both SBS and
APP modified bitumen membranes are included.
Comments and suggestions on this guide specification
are welcome and should be directed to the technical
proponent of the specification. A listing of
technical proponents, including their organization
designation and telephone number, is on the Internet.
Recommended changes to a UFGS should be submitted as
a Criteria Change Request (CCR).
Use of electronic communication is encouraged.
Brackets are used in the text to indicate designer
choices or locations where text must be supplied by
the designer.

NOTE: APP systems are allowed for Army projects
only. This guide specification does not include the
structural roof deck, insulation, or sheet metal
fascias, gravel stops, and flashings.
Acids, hydrocarbons, oil, and cooking greases attack
modified sheet roofing. When these contaminants may
be a problem on a roof, contact modified bitumen
sheet manufacturers for specific recommendations.
This section shall be coordinated with other roof
system components specifications such as rough
carpentry, insulation and sheet metal flashing.
This section shall also be coordinated with the
criteria contained in Unified Facilities Criteria
