The petrographic examination shall be used to
identify deleterious substances in aggregates.
Deleterious substances shall be listed individually
with respective limits.
Depending upon the quality of aggregates available,
some tests may not be required. Refer to EM
1110-2-2000 for the purpose of each test.

a. Frequency of Quality Tests - Thirty days prior to the start of
preplaced-aggregate concrete placement the Contractor shall perform all
tests for aggregate quality listed on the following page. In addition,
after the start of concrete placement, the Contractor shall perform
tests for aggregate quality in accordance with the frequency schedule.
Samples of fine aggregate tested after the start of concrete placement
shall be taken immediately prior to entering the grout mixer. Samples
of coarse aggregate tested after the start of concrete placement shall
be taken immediately prior to entering the forms.
